Bring Your Own Paperwork. You Spent Years Getting It Right — Keep It.

Every piece of trade software I ever tried started with the same insult. Before it would do a single useful thing, it wanted me to throw out the proposal I’d spent years getting right and rebuild it inside their boxes. It wanted their template, their fields, and their idea of what my document should say.

I never got past that first screen. And I don’t think you should have to either.

The paperwork you already have is an asset, not a problem

Think about what’s actually in your proposal. Years of getting the scope language right so you don’t get burned. The exact wording on your payment terms that took one bad job to learn. The look that makes a customer trust you before they’ve read a word. The way you describe your work, in your voice, for your trade.

That document is worth something. It’s not a rough draft waiting for software to fix it. It’s the thing that wins you jobs. I never understood why every tool treats it like the first thing to delete.

“Start over” is a hidden tax

When a piece of software makes you rebuild everything from scratch, it’s charging you a price that never shows up on the invoice. It’s the nights you spend re-typing what you already had. It’s the details that get lost in the move. It’s the weeks the tool sits unused because setting it up feels like a second job.

That’s the real reason most trade businesses stall out on new software. It isn’t the monthly fee that stops them, it’s the moving cost. And it’s exactly why I built TradeGOAT the other way around.

The rule the whole tool is built on: you bring your paperwork, and the software works around you, not the other way around.

The other way around: the software works around you

You hand TradeGOAT the proposal you already use, your Word document, the one you’ve been sending for years, and it reads it and turns it into a reusable template. That template carries your scope language, your payment terms, and your look and layout. It keeps what’s yours and just makes it faster to turn out, job after job, without you rebuilding it every time.

The parts of your document that carry real meaning stay meaningful. Your payment terms become the actual billing schedule, in real dollars, split the way you split them, not some hardcoded “standard” I made up. Your tables stay tables, reproduced faithfully, not flattened into something the software found easier to handle. I promise you will never have to change your document to fit the tool.

One honest note, because I’d rather tell you than have you find out: if your template comes from a Word document, you get clean, editable Word back out, in your format, ready to send. If all you have is a flat PDF, you’ll get a clean professional document, but not a pixel-for-pixel photocopy of your original letterhead. Your language and your structure carry through either way. I’d rather be straight with you about that than oversell it.

It’s not just an elevator thing

I build elevators, so people assume the tool only understands elevator paperwork. It doesn’t. We’ve run proposals from trades that have nothing to do with mine straight through the same process. Those documents came in with different headers, different scope language and different terms, and the tool kept their format and their words intact. The whole point is that it doesn’t need to know your trade. It needs to read your document. Whatever you turn a wrench on, your paperwork is welcome.

What you keep, and what you gain

You keep your format, your language, your terms and your look, everything a customer already recognizes as you. What you gain is speed and consistency: a professional, job-specific proposal out the door in minutes instead of an hour, built from the document you already trust, without the copy-paste mistakes that creep in when you’re rushing.

And once you’re working out of your own paperwork instead of fighting somebody else’s template, the rest of the job gets easier too, and that includes pricing it the same way every time, turning out a proposal that actually wins, and knowing whether you made money when it’s done. It all starts from documents you didn’t have to throw away.

I was never going to ask you to start over. Neither should anyone else.

Keep the proposal you already send — we’ll load it for you

TradeGOAT reads the document you’ve been sending for years and turns it into a reusable template — your scope language, your terms, your layout — so you never rebuild your paperwork inside somebody else’s boxes.
